  • The Dream Diamond Engagement Ring

Posted on May 11, 2012 by admin

So, you’ve finally found the woman of your dreams with whom to share your life. Now, it's time to choose a diamond engagement ring that is as extraordinary as she is. Your options are many, and there are several factors to be addressed.

Assuming the price is not a factor, let's begin with the metal: yellow or white gold? Will she prefer 14K, 18K or the platinum, perhaps? There is also the style and cut of the diamond to be considered. This, in part, can depend on the size of her hand. Incidentally, ring size availability ranges from the ultra-petite size 3 through 10, all in ¼, ½ and ¾ increments. If your lady has larger hands, the opulent, 2.96 carat Asscher diamond engagement ring is a marvelous choice. However, if she is petite, a ring of this style could easily overpower her and take on a somewhat fake appearance. If this is the case, perhaps the classic and delicate emerald, heart or princess cut diamond might be more appropriate. The elegant pave with trapezoidal would be lovely on a petite lady’s finger, as would the classic yet exotic marquise shape.

There are so many styles and sizes from which to choose. The most popular are the timeless round cut and the dazzling princess cut. The more exotic styles, such as the princess cut halo and double halo, are indeed magnificent, as are the bar setting with emerald cut side stones and bezel setting with emerald side stones. The platinum comfort band is what really sets these two diamond engagement ring styles apart. In fact, platinum seems to evoke an aura of subtle sophistication to any piece of fine jewelry.

Additional styles of diamonds include the oval, heart, pear and cushion cuts―all of which are available in the aforementioned metals, thus enabling you to create a personalized diamond engagement ring.
No matter the taste, budget, or size specifications and preferences, you are sure to find and create the diamond engagement ring of your dreams and hers.

  • What Diamond Engagement Ring is the Right One for Your Girl?

Posted on May 1, 2012 by admin

Getting your girlfriend a diamond engagement ring is one of the most important moments of her life. Every girl dreams of this moment, so it’s important to choose the perfect ring for her. Engagement rings typically come in seven main ring types. Those types are as follows: solitaire, pave, halo, channel, slide stone, three stone and wedding set. There are also 10 different diamond cuts. The diamond cuts are as follows: round, princess, oval, pear, emerald, asscher, radiant, marquise, heart and cushion.

The difference between the diamond engagement ring types is the way they look. A solitaire ring has a single plain band with a single stone in the middle. A pave ring has a single band with small diamonds that are separated by metal. A channel ring has a little bit of a bigger band with diamonds all around the band. The difference between this one and pave is no metal space between the diamonds on a channel ring. A slide stone ring has one large diamond, one on each side, and tiny diamonds along the band. The three stone ring has one large diamond and one on each side like the slide stone, only the band is plain. A wedding set generally comes with 2 or more bands. Some have diamonds along the band, others don’t. The halo ring has a diamond stone in the center that encircles. These rings can have a single, double or triple band.

The best type of engagement ring to buy is the kind your girlfriend likes. Pay attention to the types of rings she normally wears or ask her. The cut of the diamond isn’t as important to many women as the style. For a delicate woman, a smaller diamond and band will fit nicer.. With so many different types of rings and diamond cuts, there is sure to be something that she will love.

  • Why Many Couples Choose Unique Engagement Rings

Posted on April 9, 2012 by admin

When considering an engagement ring for someone, there are several factors that need to go into this decision. This ring is something that every couple hopes will stay on the woman's finger for the rest of her life and live up to the wedding vows of, "Until death us do part." Some couples get very creative when it comes to unique engagement rings. They will choose a setting, a metal, and a stone that is their own. Some couples try to make their ring stand out from the rest and have it be one of a kind.

Some couples choose to have the bride's ring in a style that can be added to when the couple decide to have children. They will have the ring start out with the bride's birth stone as the focal point of the ring, and then as children are born, the children's birth stones can be added to the ring to make it truly one of a kind. In addition, some people are allergic to certain types of metal or prefer one type of metal over another.

Other couples might see getting engaged as their once in a life time chance to splurge on a diamond ring and go all out to show the love of their life just how important having them by their side for the rest of their life really is to them. Diamonds do not need to be huge to tell the person how much you love them or tell the world how much you love the person that you have chosen to spend the rest of your life with. Be practical and show the person that you love them at the same time. Most people will not focus on the size of the stone but will realize that it is the thought that counts.

  • What is a Pave Set Engagement Ring?

Posted on April 2, 2012 by admin

A truly stunning and unique engagement ring option is a Pave (pah-vay) set engagement ring. A pave setting, named after the close placement of stones in cobblestone pavements, is one or more rows of diamonds closely set together in an engagement ring band to enhance the center stone and create the illusion of a solid diamond-paved surface. Multiple pave setting styles and various diamond types, sizes, cuts and arrangements offer a wide array of engagement ring design and customization options that will appear brilliant in any light.

When designing pave engagement rings, you can select one of two band styles: a full-pave setting with one or more rows of diamonds running completely around the band from one side of the center stone to the other, or a half-pave setting with diamonds running halfway down the band from both sides of the center stone. Each band style has its design advantages. The advantage of a full-pave setting is a completely diamond covered band that creates a fiery sparkling surface on your ring finger from all angles no matter how you move your hand. The advantage of a half-pave setting is that it offers the same beauty and distinction but provides a smooth metal surface under your ring finger. A smooth surface is important to some people who like the contrast of diamonds and metal.

Besides pave setting band styles, you can also select diamond setting options. You can request to have the diamonds set slightly above a band to give it distinctive edges that you can feel against the sides of your fingers, or diamonds set into a band below its edges to prevent the diamonds from rubbing against your fingers. You can also request a micro-pave setting that features extremely tiny diamonds set together to create a smooth or rough textured, brilliant diamond-encrusted surface.

  • The Complex Decision of Which Diamond Engagement Ring

Posted on March 30, 2012 by admin

When picking the ideal diamond engagement ring to present to their partner, many men may become confused with all of the different styles available. They want to pick the perfect ring, but may not know how to find the best one. Fortunately, with a little knowledge about the different styles, it can be easy to find the most unique and beautiful ring to use when proposing marriage.

Diamond engagement rings come in a variety of different metals, with the most popular being in white gold, yellow gold or platinum. A person should consider their budget when selecting the metal, as rings with purer gold or platinum are more expensive. Some rings may have the same style, but be made of different types of metals. A person should choose the metal that would look best on the person they are purchasing for.

In addition to the metal, a diamond engagement ring can have a different diamond shape. This includes the traditional round brilliant, which is a popular choice for anyone. Marquis, which is longer and narrower than a round cut, is also a popular choice. • Why Emerald Cut Engagement Rings?

Posted on February 27, 2012 by admin

Every little girl dreams of her wedding day and a big part of that dream actually starts with the perfect proposal and engagement ring. Women want a ring that expresses their individuality and personal style. They want a ring that has elegance, is timeless, and reminds them every day of how much they are adored.

Emerald cut engagement rings tie together all these things. They are considered a classically elegant and sophisticated cut. This cut, named because it was originally used for very hard to cut emeralds, looks almost like a rectangle to the untrained eye. The cut brings together long lines, with light reflecting facets down all four sides and makes for a bold shape. Emerald cut diamond rings also have angled corners. Classic emerald cut diamonds should have a length to width ratio of 1.3 or 1.4 to 1. Although personal preference can dictate the ratio you choose, there is also a lot of variety available in the shape of the emerald cut diamond.

The relative simplicity of performing this cut means that an emerald cut diamond tends to be less expensive than its round brilliant counterpart. The large amount of flat surface though means that it easily shows imperfections and discolorations in the diamond. For this reason, it is important to get the highest quality diamond your budget will permit when selecting the emerald cut. Make sure you buy from a retailer with GIA or EGL certifications.

Additionally, the emerald cut is often paired with smaller side gems because the shape lends itself to this - most often tapered baguettes, princess or another emerald cut gem. They may be tiny gems fully lining the outside of your emerald cut or a wide range of sizes placed along the ring band.

  • Rules in Purchasing Diamond Engagement Rings

Posted on February 20, 2012 by admin

Nothing is more romantic than receiving a diamond engagement ring from your boyfriend. It is the essence of love, commitment, and the lifetime of love it promises.

Diamond engagement rings are expected to last a lifetime and be worn every day of a woman's life. Therefore, the best possible one should be obtained within the gentleman's budget. A diamond engagement ring should not put a man in the poorhouse, nor cause an insurmountable debt. Diamond engagement rings are available at both ends of the financial spectrum.

Generally speaking, it was once thought that 1-2 months' wages should be spent on an engagement ring that lasts a lifetime. So, if the gentleman earns roughly $60,000.00 per year, he should be expected to buy a diamond engagement ring valued at about $5,000.00. Of course, this is a personal decision and should be made by the man or ideally, both the man and his fiancee.

There are no rules regarding the purchasing of engagement rings. Often shopped for together, a woman may choose a particular setting or diamond shape that she likes. Diamond solitaires can be round, pear-shaped, heart-shaped, oval or square, also known as "emerald cut." Personal preference and size is determined by the couple or the gentleman, should he choose to, surprise his bride to be. The choice of white gold, yellow gold or platinum is another choice to be considered when purchasing a diamond engagement ring.

Additionally, the diamond engagement ring may have a simple band or have smaller diamonds surrounding the main stone. It may also include a band with small diamonds encircling the band or have a matching wedding ring. Jewelers will often have many available styles and price ranges available to show to the happy couple.

  • How to Choose Halo Engagement Rings Based on Hand Shapes

Posted on January 26, 2012 by admin

Halo engagement rings are characterized by their ability to let light pass through the stone in a way that creates a halo-reminiscing appearance. This gives the ring an even more appealing sparkle, and is, therefore, often a favorite among many brides-to-be. The gemstones in halo rings come in an endless number of variations and just as with ring type, ornament design has an effect on how the ring will look on your finger depending on your finger and hand shape. Make sure you read through these simple tips before you go out there and choose between the countless number of halo engagement rings.

    Finger Shape vs. Ornament Type

    • Long fingers – While oval and pear shapes tend to elongate your finger, round and square shapes typically give your finger a shorter and more flattering look.
    • Short fingers – Choose pear and teardrop shapes as these have an elongating effect, but avoid big rectangular ornaments, as these can be a little too overwhelming.
    • Narrow fingers – Look for rings with thicker band styles and smaller ornament designs. Avoid heart-shaped and round stones.
    • Wide fingers – Round stones and cluster styles may be the most flattering for wide fingers. You will want to expose as little skin as possible on the sides of the ornament. If your fingers are short and wide, look for larger marquise styles.

    Hand Shape vs. Ornament Type

    • Big hands – Avoid rings with small stones, since these may look lost on a big hand. Larger, and sometimes even really bulky or chunky ring types look great on people with bigger hands.
    • Small hands – As long as the ornament size is relatively small, heart-shaped, oval, square, or round designs all look good on small hands.

No matter what type of fingers and hands you were born with, the unique characteristics of halo engagement rings will make any finger sparkle.

  • Speaking of Vintage Engagement Rings

Posted on January 23, 2012 by admin

Do you think you have seen vintage engagement rings? You may want to reconsider your definition of vintage until you hear this Swede's miraculous story of a long lost wedding ring that resurfaced on a carrot, 16 years later.

There are many superstitions regarding lost or broken commitment rings. Some believe that losing or breaking a ring will result in the beginning of the end of the marriage. The "reckless" act of losing a ring will supposedly cause the husband to pass away, commit adultery, or be struck by some other kind of unpredictable disaster. Now, this does not seem to have been the case in the marriage between Lena and Ola Paahlsson from Mora, Sweden.

During one of her annual Christmas baking sessions back in 1995, Lena lost her wedding ring somewhere around her home. The couple looked everywhere without any success and they gave up, thinking that it was a lost cause.

While vintage engagement rings are typically credited with having certain characteristics, this particular ring seems to have an attraction to produce. Believe it or not, but when Lena went out to harvest the garden in October of last year, she found the ring wrapped around a finger-sized carrot.

The couple has many theories attempting to explain how the ring ended up where it was found, with one being just as likely as the other. No matter which path the ring traveled, its beauty was well preserved, and the white gold diamond ring looked as good as new. Incredible.
