With their elongated shape, marquise cut engagement rings often appear like the pinnacle of luxury. According to legend, the name “marquise” honors and was inspired by the Marquise of Pompadour’s perfectly-shaped mouth. The marquise cut diamond has the largest top-view surface area of all the diamond shapes, so it will make nearly any carat size look larger than it would look in another shape.
